About One Ocean Week Seattle

What is One Ocean Week Seattle?

One Ocean Week Seattle (OOWS) is an international gathering focused on ocean innovation, collaboration and action. Hosted by Maritime Blue, OOWS brings together ocean leaders, innovators, researchers, startups, policymakers, artists, educators and communities to accelerate solutions for a sustainable, inclusive maritime future.

OOWS 2026 marks the second U.S. edition of the globally recognized event and highlights Seattle and the Pacific Northwest’s role as a hub for ocean innovation and sustainability.

The week features summits, cultural and community events, technology pilots and demonstration projects, equity-focused workforce development programming and global delegations. Programming will create opportunities to connect directly with investors and decision-makers, build lasting cross-sector partnerships and move ideas toward implementation through policy, market development and investment.

What is Maritime Blue?

Maritime Blue is a strategic alliance focused on maritime innovation and sustainability. Founded in Seattle and working globally, Maritime Blue connects industry, government, academia, entrepreneurs and communities to accelerate solutions that support a thriving ocean, healthy communities and resilient economies.

Its areas of focus include maritime decarbonization, sustainable fishing and seafood, renewable ocean energy, digital transformation and blue innovation ecosystems.

Who is involved in One Ocean Week Seattle?

OOWS is designed as a cross-sector and international gathering. Participants include industry leaders, policymakers and government leaders, Tribal governments and communities, investors and funds, researchers and academics, startups and innovators, foundations and NGOs, port authorities, maritime clusters and international delegations.

Maritime Blue’s role is to convene and connect these groups so that ideas, expertise, funding and real-world needs can come together. The goal is not simply to put different sectors in the same room, but to create relationships and initiatives that continue beyond the event itself.

In 2025, OOWS included more than 50 events, drew more than 1,200 registrants and represented 15 countries, providing a strong foundation for the event’s second U.S. edition in 2026.

Why Seattle?

Seattle and the Pacific Northwest have a deep connection to the ocean and maritime economy, bringing together a working waterfront, maritime companies, technology innovators, research institutions, policymakers and communities with longstanding ties to the water.

OOWS is intended to showcase that ecosystem while also connecting Seattle with ocean clusters, delegations and leaders from around the world.

What is different about One Ocean Week Seattle in 2026?

The 2026 event represents a shift from dialogue toward action. This year, OOWS will focus more directly on the difficult decisions, unresolved questions and cross-sector collaboration needed to turn ocean innovation into meaningful progress. The 2026 event is designed around action, with programming tied to technology deployment, lasting cross-sector partnerships, policy engagement, market development and investment.

Is One Ocean Week Seattle only for maritime industry professionals?

No. While OOWS brings together leaders working directly in the maritime and Blue Economy, its purpose is deliberately cross-sectoral. The week includes summits alongside cultural events, community activities, youth and workforce development programming and other partner-led events.

The week is relevant to entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers, community leaders, students and others interested in ocean health, climate and sustainability, technology, economic development and the future of waterfront communities.

Any interested parties should consult the Luma calendar to learn more about individual events.

Costs vary per event, and some events are free. Please see the One Ocean Week Seattle 2026 Luma calendar for cost details for each event.

Programming & Topics

What issues will industry leaders be discussing?

Four major questions will anchor the 2026 OOWS Summit:

  1. International engagement amid geopolitical unrest
How countries and organizations can continue collaborating on ocean challenges at a time of growing geopolitical tension. OOWS will explore what productive international engagement looks like when global priorities and interests diverge.
  2. The ocean finance gap
Ocean solutions require capital to move from idea to implementation. Participants will examine where financing falls short, how public and private capital can work together and what needs to change to scale promising technologies and projects.
  3. The ocean’s communications challenge
Ocean issues affect climate, commerce, food systems and communities around the world, yet many remain poorly understood outside the maritime and ocean sectors. OOWS will explore why these issues struggle to break through and how the industry can communicate their significance more effectively.
  4. What real collaboration looks like
Ocean challenges cross borders, industries and jurisdictions. Discussions will examine what meaningful collaboration requires — beyond convening — and how organizations can create partnerships that produce projects, investment, policy movement and measurable results.

What other topics may come up during the week?

OOWS conversations are also expected to touch on broader issues shaping the maritime and ocean economy, including maritime decarbonization, clean fuels and green shipping corridors, ocean science and monitoring, sustainable seafood, renewable ocean energy, digital innovation and the policies and investment needed to bring new technologies to market.

The broader OOWS platform has historically focused on areas including vessel electrification, ocean monitoring, aquaculture, sustainable fisheries and connecting innovators with capital and commercialization partners.
